MINUTES OF THE GILBERT COMMISSION ON HUMAN RELATIONS  SPECIAL MEETING

MONDAY NOVEMBER 18, 2002
6:00PM

SOUTHEAST REGIONAL LIBRARY, ROOM A
775 N GREENFIELD ROAD, GILBERT, ARIZONA

MEMBERS PRESENT: Marian Barchilon, Christina Cooper Foster, Jose Franco, Steve Galas, Tawn Hauptli, Carolyn Irby, Cheri Jarvis, Richard King, Jennifer McCarthy, Dawn Schween, Tami Smull, Terry Ward, and Fred Wilhalme

MEMBERS ABSENT: Ronald Bellus, Daniel Christiano, Lynn Fromm, Burnie Hibbard, Paul Huston, and Rod Randolph

OTHERS PRESENT: Personnel Analyst Boynton, Nina Robinson, and Frank Stone

CALL MEETING TO ORDER:

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

1. ROLL CALL

Personnel Analyst Boynton called roll and declared a quorum present.

2. PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

3. DINNER, WELCOME, AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Dinner Recognition of outgoing members

Kymberly Marshall, Jorge Reinoso, Sherri Flake, and Elizabeth Nowak were recognized for their hard work and dedication in serving on the Commission and subcommittees.

Introductions and ice-breakers

The new members were welcomed and everyone introduced himself or herself.

4. TEAM BUILDING

Team building activities

Everyone participated in team building activities lead by Nina Robinson.

5. COMMISSION MANUALS

Commission history  Diversity Task Force Report

There was a brief description of what the Diversity Task Force Report recommended and why the Commission was created.

By-laws

Mission Statement

Vision Statement

The by-laws, Mission Statement, and Vision Statement were reviewed and discussed.

6. REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO DATE

Participation in 9-11 event

Participation in Gilbert Days

Networking with other community and valley organizations

There was a brief discussion regarding the activities of the Commission, participation in community events, and the goal of networking with other organizations.

7. SUBCOMMITTEE and Liaisons

There were reports and discussions regarding the responsibilities and activities of the subcommittees.

ADJOURNMENT

A MOTION was made by Commissioner King, seconded by Commissioner Schween, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Chair Hauptli adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m.
