MINUTES OF THE ARTS ADVISORY BOARD STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION

SATURDAY, AUGUST 25, 2001
10:00 A.M.

1025 SOUTH GILBERT ROAD, GILBERT, ARIZONA

MEMBERS PRESENT: Scott Emerson, Betsy Harfst, Mark Lymer, Jose Benavides, Estella Velasco-Gilfillan, Vice-Chair, Dwight Walth, Chair, Paula Beavin, and Gary Lewallen

ABSENT: Susan Dahlberg, Vice-Mayor Les Presmyk

STAFF PRESENT: Lili Schuett, George Pettit

CALL TO ORDER OF STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION

Dwight called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

ROLL CALL

Dwight declared a quorum present.

1. Minutes

Dwight moved to accept regular meeting minutes for August 6,2001 and Betsy seconded the motion.

Board Meetings  The Board decided to continue meeting on the first Monday of the month and continue with the special meeting on the third Monday of the month through October. Scheduled meetings are September 17th, October 1st, and October 15th.

INTRODUCTIONS

The Chair turned the meeting over to Nancy Wolter who facilitated the planning session for the rest of the morning. Her report of the session is attached.

LUNCH

The Chair asked Lili to make a brief presentation of the Open Dance Proposal and show the Video submitted. After discussion a motion was made by Gary and seconded by Mark to have Dwight write a letter of support for Open Dance to include in their proposal when seeking funding to work in the Gilbert community. Lili was asked to e-mail Dwights letter to the board before finalizing.

The Chair turned the meeting over to Nancy to continue facilitating the planning session.

2. Communications From:

Board Members  Paula asked to discuss Susans email regarding her desire to resign from the board. Paula encouraged board members to call Susan and Lili stated she has a lunch meeting scheduled with Susan on Monday, August 27th to discuss Susans possible resignation. Susan is reconsidering her decision.

ADJOURNMENT

Dwight put in a motion to adjourn the meeting at 3:20 p.m. All members agreed.
